The 1984 film The Invisible Man, directed by Brian Lighthill, and the original book The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells share both similarities and differences.
Overall, the film retains the key themes and elements of Welles' original work, but gives them its own unique interpretation. The storyline of the novel takes place over several months, starting in midwinter and ending in early spring. In the series, this period was reduced to one month, and the entire story takes place in the middle of summer. According to screenwriter James Andrew Hull, this was done to emphasize the unusualness of the first appearance of the invisible, who, despite the summer heat, appears in clothes that cover his entire body.
