Līdz 11.gs viduslaiku laicīgā mūzika kā tāda nepastāvēja, tā radās līdz ar bruņinieku kārtas izveidošanos. Parādījās trubadūri un tuverēni (Trubadūri bija vairāk bija izplatīti Dienvidfrancijā, bet tuverēni- Ziemeļfrancijā), minnezingeri (Vācijā) un meistardziedoņi, bardi un skaldi. Lielāko laicīgās mūzikas daļu sastāda deju dziesmas, mīlas dziesmas un pastorellas (Ganu dziesmas), šīs dziesmas tiek uzskatītas par laju mūziku.…
