The results suggested that pregnant women may face more workplace discrimination than do women in general. Despite seeing otherwise the identical behaviour by the same woman, the student raters "with remarkably high degree of consistency assigned lower performance ratings to the pregnant woman as opposed to a non-pregnant one. CONCLUSIONS
As this report indicates performance appraisal system has its pros and cons. When its has been used constructively both employees and organizations benefit. As this document suggests neither extreme is correct. The data has shown that a more centrist position should be taken on this appraisal system. There are three main reasons for having an appraisal system: Monitor the overall progress of the business, develop the business to meet changing circumstances, encourage and motivate employees.
