The most notable linguistic features include repetition of the same word as in the case of ‘little’ – little chap, little man, little face, little laugh, little hero, little boy, little paw etc.. The text is rich in root words – word, boy, man, door, derivatives of the text include: dreadful, whipping, compounds – half-light, afternoon, drawing-room and many others. In general, these verbs too can be put in contrast – while Dicky makes such movements as ‘fly, hide, run, dash, make a rush, leap up and down’, his father is characterized with ‘stagger, stride, barge’. The second group could be such verbs as bang, beat, slap, whip – verbs connected with violence. The words of the extract are mostly of Anglo-Saxon (leap, mother), Scandinavian, Germanic (slip) and Latin origin.
