To ban what many consider being the Rosetta Stone of American Literature is comparable to prohibition of an icon based operating system. No person in their right mind, with the exception of the few dungeon masters, would want to be backwards and us MS DOS. Just like the evolution of the computer comes the evolution of American literature. To censor a keystone novel inhibits students from understanding the morals and writing styles of America and how they evolved. The novel allows the youth to be come more cultured and less unaware of American society's outlook and how it has developed. It gives a sense of appreciation for the country because of drastic differences from pre-civil war times. The novel does not give a negative connotation to civil rights, children. Furthermore it does not make a mockery of our constitution for it is Thomas Jefferson who said, "I am opposed to any form of tyranny over the mind of man." It is merely, like why many are forced to take history, a caution. (Relation to what happens in the past may reoccur.)…
