William Somerset Maugham’s short story “The Unconquered” narrates about a French girl, Annette, and a German soldier, Hans, in time of First World War. Going through the story, the author shows us Annette’s multifaceted nature. In the beginning of the story Annette was sore and hostile, what is entirely understandable.
