The Painted Veil by W.Somerset Maugham is one of the types of books I just love. It’s very beautiful and romantic story about true love, but it’s not too banal. It’s first published in 1925, but story is so amazing it has been re-issued.
The Painted Veil is story about Kitty and her marriage to bacteriologist Walter Fane, about her personal growth as a human being. Kitty was raised to marry young and well. When her younger sister announces her engagement Kitty accepts Walter’s proposal and goes to live in Hong Kong. From the start you can tell that Kitty does not love Walter, and marries only to escape being old and alone.…
