Capital Punishment Should Be Abolished

Consider that there is a person, Bob, who has been unequivocally wronged. His wife and daughter were brutally raped, disfigured, and left paraplegic by another man Steve. However, for whatever reason Steve is acquitted on all charges. There is a lack of evidence, lack of motive, and to top it off Steve has an airtight alibi. A few months after the trial, Bob is away on business in a non-extradition island in the Caribbean and overhears a drunken Steve telling another man what he had done. There is no doubt that Steve is talking about Bob's wife and daughter as he is careful to not leave out any details as he enlightens his bar buddy. Not only is Steve giving him the details of the crime, but also he explains to the would-be gentleman caller how he got off scott-free. Bob follows Steve away from the bar that night and as he passes out on the deserted beach Bob slides the limp body into the ocean and drowns him. No one could say that Steve did not deserve the punishment that he received. However, not many of us would be inclined to say that what Bob did was right.
Or, to make the example more accurate, let us say that Bob is pretty sure that Steve is guilty. Some of what he is saying is drowned out by the waves in the background so Bob cannot be 100% certain.
