Summary:
The Czech Republic is striving hard to emulate our educational system but is only begin to realise that education for education's sake does not develop the job skills that Western companies are looking for in the job market. It would seem prudent especially with the demise of uneconomical state controlled industries such as mining, to re organise the educational system in order to offer students the potential to realise the kind of skills expected. This approach would also encourage economical growth and investment in the country from Western Companies drawn to a potentially diverse and skilled work force.
The way to go some way to achieving this is to introduce a comprehensive vocational training system, which will then allow for re training of people made redundant in the conventional industries. The Czech Republic is in an enviable position in that it can draw from the past experiences of most of the Western world and implement them in order to offset the rapidly changing demands of the labour market and its effect on the educational system. However, it would seem to still be blighted by an inability to react quickly, which is clearly a hangover from it's communist past. In lots of cases the problem is apparent, the solution is at hand but the willingness to act is nullified by the men in power still being limited in their willingness for change. …
