B.Colonialism.
As described above, one of the main navigational tools used by early explorers before the invention of chronometer measures longitude was compass. Without it cruising across oceans would have been impossible. It was with the help of compass that explorers were able to discover the continents of America and Australia, and to move deep into the continent of Africa. Many European counties like Great Britain, France, and Spain colonized these new found lands and establishing their rule over the native population of those countries. These European countries enriched and empowered themselves by plundering the wealth and raw material of colonized countries, and by enslaving the native people. As a result the European countries became wealthier and this itself gave way to future discoveries by the Europeans. The period of 18th century until mid 20th century was the era of colonialism, and no one can deny the roll this era has had on the future of world.
IV.Conclusion
At the time of its invention compass has been one of the greatest achievements of human kind, and has numerous effects on our societies. Although today most of the marine vehicles and airplanes use Global Positioning System (GPS) units, radar, and electronic plotters, but compass is still largely used on small boats and as guiding tool for individuals.
