Latvia is not a big country, but despite its size, it has become popular with many interesting places, people and events. In this report I am going to tell you about latvian culture and everyday life nowadays, our achievements and how other countries see us today.
After regaining independence our country has become much more active than when it was a part of the Soviet Union. We have lots of political parties with different opinions, and as we now live in a democratic country, everyone is allowed to have an opinion and to express it. On 20 September 2003 in a nationwide referendum 66.9% of the Latvians voted in favour of joining the European Union. Our EU membership took effect on 1 May 2004 and Latvia is a NATO member since March 29, 2004.…
