Recently, a lot more previously arrested people are returning to prison. According to the Prison Authority’s 2021 study, there were 3183 inmates in the prison of which 17.18% were arrested for the second time, 13.18% for the third time and 31.28% for the fourth time or more. In my opinion, the reason why previously arrested persons can not keep themselves out of prison is that they get heavily discriminated. When released from prison, there are several serious challenges ex-criminals are faced with, they need to find a job and possibly also a place to live. But what most people do not understand is that people who have spent a long time in prison have a hard time socializing and also society looks at previously arrested people much more differently which makes it even harder. Finding a job after being released from prison is really important, in order for them not returning to criminal activity they need to have a steady income. But it is not easy because anyone rarely wants to hire an ex-criminal. A Brookings Institution study on work before and after incarceration revealed that 45% of formerly imprisoned people report no earnings for the first year after their release. …
