What is art for me? What is its meaning?
Art for me is a creation that captures my attention and interest. Something that appeals to my eye and something that provokes an emotion, no matter positive or negative. I believe that arts duty is to make the spectator ask questions and to provoke a thinking process, evaluating his/her values and understanding of world around us. To see new perspective of things and space around us.
A work of art has to capture my attention more than once; it has to unveil something new each time I look at it.
To illustrate my concept of art that appeals to my eye I have chosen two art movements; Renaissance and Surrealism. These two art movements-so different but similar in my eyes have always captured my attention and interest.
As I entered adolescence I was striving to clarify the values that my parents have thought me and the ones of the public opinion that I was surrounded with. Adolescence is a time in every young person’s life when we search to become a personality and to form our own opinion and values. Art is a powerful tool to see new horizons and different ways of thinking offered by artists.
The art movement that touched me the most was Renaissance- meaning "rebirth" in French. It Refers to Europe c. 1400-1600. Renaissance art which began in Italy, stressed the forms of classical antiquity, a realistic representation of space based on scientific perspective, and secular subjects. The works of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael exemplify the balance and harmony of the High Renaissance (c. 1495-1520).…
