Peter Benchley was born in 1940 in New York.
JAWS was his first novel after his first book 'Time and Ticket' from 1964. He finished writing JAWS in 1973 and sold it for what is described as "...a great sum...." to Universal Studios.
Benchley co-wrote JAWS for the screen and actually appears as a news reader on the beach.
He was supposedly thrown off the set of JAWS after an argument over the ending of the film. This is not a proven fact, but in his novel Quint in killed by drowning and the shark does not explode, it mearly dies of exhaustion. …
