Robert Bayley was 16 when he was first admitted into a hospital. He was first diagnosed as a psychotic with schizophrenia tendencies and eventually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He took drugs for ten years which caused him to have involuntary movement and not to be able to control what he said. He did not feel confident in social situations and did not like making contact with people. He was lethargic and wanted to be still all the time which
caused him to be unproductive.
In 1993 he began to take a new drug that affects white blood cells. It took several months before Robert noticed any benefits to the medication. It was not a cure to his illness, but it did give him strength and he felt well enough to cope with the disorder which none of the other drugs did. These drugs still had side effects, but they were not as bad as the effects that came with his old medication.
