To conclude this short essay, O. Henry with his short story wanted to say that nothing in the world is more important than love. O. Henry wasn’t a rich man for most of his life as well. He was struggling with jobs for a long time until he started to make a good income. He wasn’t a greedy person. Even when he was in prison, he was trying to help his daughter. He started to write not because he wanted to be famous; he just wanted to give love to his daughter. And this beautifully coincides with the message of his short story. Hair will grow back, money for the expensive watch can be saved up again but if love is broken then repairing it is almost an impossible task. People shouldn’t run after material things and money. They should spend time with their loved ones and show how much they love them. Everything in the material world is replaceable sooner or later but nothing will replace true love or a lost relative.
