The Dilemma of Freedom and Security in the Context of US Politics
However, it is important to understand that the state, after these events, allowed to publish information about “atrocities” in prison and even held a trial of people who were directly related to what was happening.4 This can only mean that the necessary/valuable information was not obtained during the interrogations. This leads to the conclusion that if information had been obtained in the course of crimes in this prison, the actions could have been considered justified from the point of view of security, but in reality, valuable information could not have been obtained, which once again confirms the statements of the Red Cross about innocent
Iraqis in this prison5.
The dilemma of liberty and security has no solutions in the sense that there will always
be arguments both for the individual's liberty, which is violated in the course of an action, and for the security that the state tries to provide first of all for itself, and therefore for the majority of society, even if it goes against the basic liberties of individuals. The example of the two
situations described above clearly shows how the proposed model of analysis can be
extrapolated to a wide variety of situations, both from the point of view of liberty and from the point of view of security, because again, the analysis of situations from the point of view of this dichotomy is always ambiguous and multidimensional.
