John Krakauer has the same fault as Odyseuss. He is a very intelligent intelligent at heart, but tends to make poor decisions. Krakauer shows his intelligence when he decides to leave Beck and Yasuko on the south col instead of hauling them down the mountain. He figured
that Beck and Yasuko, although still alive, would not make it down the mountain, and would probably cost others there lives. This is a very intelligent and mature decision that he makes. Beck and Yasuko were both John's friends, but he thinks of the overall results, and
he understands that others would lose their lives trying to bring Beck and Yasuko down the mountain. Although the decision he makes about Yasuko and Beck is wise, some of his decisions are not. While Krakauer is ascending the mountain towards the summit, he sees many clouds and knows that a storm is coming. He tells a few people he sees on his way up, but otherwise he fails to inform others of the upcoming storm. His failure to do so is a bad decision. He could have saved many lives if he had made the proper decision to stop, and tell as many people as he could about the storm. But he does not, so that is a poor decision on his part.
