The Zoos

There can be very few people who haven’t heard about the problem of the necessity of zoos in the metropolises of Europe, but in Latvia this problem is not as topical yet. However, the idea that zoos are unnecessary is a highly dubious proposition.

Anti-zoo critics use a common script: ‘Animals in zoos are imprisoned without a trial’, they regard zoos as prisons with unsuitable conditions for animals to be kept.

To a certain limited extent, there is some truth in it, and some zoos in developing countries do face problems with keeping up with the world standards for safety and convenience.…
