Pirmajā kara kaujā daudzi saprata, ko patiesībā nozīmē karš. 1916.gadā sākas briesmīgas kaujas Ikšķilē, kuras tiek dēvēta par ‘’Nāves salu’’. Tajā pašā gadā notika ‘’Ziemassvētku kauja’’. Ziemassvētku kaujās nekādi ieguvumi nebija, tikai zaudētas dzīvības. Friči vēlējās iegūt latviešu uzticību.
Manuprāt, latviešu strēlnieki bija varoņi, taču paši sevi pataisīja par upuriem, lai arī viņi apzinājās iznākuma sekas. …
