Pop art:
Pop art became in the 1950s one of the most important art movements of the 20th century. It sprang up in England and the US almost simultaneously - albeit independently - and was at its height in the US during the 1960s.

The origin of the term "Pop art" has been variously traced. It might derive from the English verb "to pop" or simply from the adjective "popular" (which implies wide currency as well as liking).

Another explanation involves the British artist Richard Hamilton, whose 1956 blown-up photomontage of images taken from advertising included a lollipop designated by the word "Pop".…
