Evalulation of book
This book is hard to read and understand for western reader because of the cultural and philosophical perception difference. Each chapter took 10-15 minutes for me to translate incomprehensible vocabulary and to read translator’s commentary.
But it was worth it because in my perception this book contains the most in the least. The philosophical ideas of this book are strongly positioned and easy to understand because afterall one of the main ideas of Tao is simplicity.
My favourite quote
‘’Thirty spokes join in one hub
In its emptiness, there is the function of a vehicle1
Mix clay to create a container
In its emptiness, there is the function of a container2
Cut open doors and windows to create a room
In its emptiness, there is the function of a room
Therefore, that which exists is used to create benefit
That which is empty is used to create functionality’’
