«The Great Gatsby» portrays societal issues that have been around for a long time and are still relatable for people of 21st century. The main lesson is that not all desires can be fulfilled, not even with a hefty wallet, unmatched power or status.
Mr. Jay Gatsby had fallen in love with Daisy, but life got in the way and she got married to Mr. Tom Buchanan. In order to catch her eye and grasp her attention, Mr. Gatsby spares no expense and throws lavish parties weekly, always hoping that someday Daisy would show up and their old flame would be rekindled again. Although it is understandable, Jay should reconsider his life choices and stop wasting his breath by talking to someone who does not listen.
To put it lightly, Mr. Gatsby is a peacock. People are all about appearances today, just as Gatsby was. Their presence in social media, promotion of perfect lifestyle, never ending attempts to create an illusion of an effortlessly lived, lavish life show just how much our society resembles the setting of «The Great Gatsby».
