Now a little bit about the author, so William Somerset Maugham was an outstanding British writer, playwright, novelist, and short story writer of the 20th century. His repertoire includes many plays and novels, as well as one story. He stands out by the fact that the style of his work is simple, accessible and dynamic. He says that he considers it necessary to write this way, because the work should be understandable to everyone, and if only the “chosen ones” understand it, then this is just too much pathos.
