The title of the term paper is “The Abbreviations in English, Their Usage and Correspondences to Latvian Counterparts”.
The reasons for writing a paper on this topic are numerous. First of all, abbreviations are widely used in every day life – in written form of a language as well as in speech. Another reason for writing a paper is that abbreviations are different in form: spelt with a capital or small letter, containing punctuation marks or numbers and symbols or not, some are long, the others are short.
Therefore, the aims of the present paper are:
To get acquainted with the usage of abbreviations;
To discover the types of English abbreviations;
To find correspondences between English and Latvian abbreviations.
The objectives of the research are:
The study and the analysis of the concept “abbreviations, their types and usage” in scientific literature;
The study of English abbreviations;
Discovering of the characteristic features of English abbreviations and grouping them according to the traits found;
Comparison of English and Latvian abbreviations and finding correspondences between them.
The methods of research used:
1.Theoretical: reading, analyzing, and comparing the literature on the issue.
2.Practical: the investigation of English abbreviations, their grouping and analysis.
The structure of the paper is as follows:
The paper is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The theoretical part is revealed in chapters 2 and 4. The practical part intertwines with the theoretical part in chapters 1, 3 and 5.…
