„A man without a country” is Kurt Vonnegut’s last book, published in 2005 in USA and in 2007 in Latvia. This book is a compilation of essays and speeches he wrote in the last 5 years unlike his other books (except the previous one - “Timequake”) which are defined mostly as science fiction. His writing style is, as always, ironic and full of humour, but also, as John M. Formy-Duval says in his review about this book, „he is deadly serious”. This book was compiled shortly before his death at the age of 84 after almost a decade’s absence. In the original American edition of this book we can see his own artwork just like in his other books. There are Kurt Vonnegut's hand-lettered aphorisms between every chapter.
Some of the material in this book is taken from his previous books. „A man without a country” starts with the phrase from his book „The Sirens of Titan”: „There is no reason good can’t triumph over evil, if only angels will get organized along the lines of the mafia.” Reading his book is more like having a conversation with him.…
