Conclusions
Over the years teeth naturally become darker but teeth discoloration can be caused by factors such as several foods and drinks, smoking, poor dental hygiene, some diseases and medications. Teeth bleaching is a common procedure in general dentistry but most especially in the field of cosmetic dentistry. Professional teeth bleaching procedures are carried out by the dentist. There are available external bleaching that involves applying the gel on the outer surfaces of teeth, and internal bleaching where the bleaching product is put inside a tooth. In both types of teeth bleaching as the bleaching agent is used carbamide peroxide which breaks down in the mouth to form hydrogen peroxide, or hydrogen peroxide itself. There can be some side effects and risks associated with the teeth whitening procedure such as gum, teeth sensitivity, chemical burns, overbleaching and bleachorexia. Effects of teeth bleaching can last from several months up to three years.
