The author of the Term Paper is the third year student of Riga Technical University, the Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology and Energy Institute of Digital Humanities, Edvards Beļajevs. The theme of the Term Paper is the following: “The Prevalence of Compounding as a Term Formation Pattern in the Informative Texts in the Field of Telecommunications”.
The Term Paper consists of three parts: the Theoretical Part, The Analytical Part and the Practical Part. The research focuses on such relevant concepts as terminology science, term-concept-object relationship, term formation process and the established patterns of term formation. Moreover, it investigates the pattern of compounding, describing the creation of a compound, as well as presenting definitions, typology and characteristic features of compounds. The analytical part deals with terms found in an informative text related to the field of Telecommunications formed by means of compounding, aiming to determine the predominant type of compound in the selected text for translation, as well as to identify translation methods that are commonly applied when translating the respective compounds from English into Latvian. The Practical Part comprises the translation of the source text taken from the book “Telecom Tensions: Internet Service Providers and Public Policy in Canada”.
