Taking into account words Dane Glasgow said (2013) - “About 90% of shopping is still done in physical stores. Within that context delivery plays make a lot of sense. About 75% of commerce actually happens 15 miles from home..”, I think that it was worth to create same day delivery service. Definitely it helped Ebay to extend their market share, so they got more clients and more revenue.
In my opinion Ebay become stronger competitor and other online and physical stores lost their clients and money they could earn if Ebay didn’t offer same day delivery service. Challenges Ebay faced mostly are related with large investments, necessity of couriers and risk they took by offering same-day delivery service, because they didn’t actually know if there will be demand for such services. In my opinion it is possible that offering same-day delivery service can be successful for the company. Most important thing to do is to charge appropriate fee for such a service and to employ couriers in a most efficient way possible – they must do their job without delays in delivery and there shouldn’t be problems with employee productivity in the company, because then company will have high expenses. So, efficient work schedule is also a key to success.
