Pārtikas glicerīnu (augu izcelsmes) izmanto, lai palielinātu saldumu un viskozitāti, piemēram, vīnam, alum un stipriem dzērieniem. Taču ir jāievēro noteikta koncentrācija, nedrīkst pārsniegt 5% no kopējā tilpuma.
To pievieno šķidrumiem kā antifrīzu.
