Tesla coil basically consists of two open circuits – primary and secondary coil. Primary coil is connected to high voltage AC transformer. Secondary coil is connected to primary coil too. Secondary coil consists of high voltage capacitor, spark gap (air between two electrodes) and coil, which is made of well conducting metal (usually thick copper wire). When transformer is connected to electricity, it provides current in the first circuit. This current charges the capacitor. When the capacitor reaches enough voltage, it discharges through the spark gap quickly and makes huge magnetic field in the primary coil. Meanwhile magnetic field from the first coil makes many times greater voltage in the secondary coil than it was in the first coil. This process repeats in high frequencies because of resonance.…
