1. Synopsis of the Articles
The Internet will dramatically change the way people do business – from prospecting to building image to making the all – important sale. We are at the dawn of this area. :Like the pioneers of the Wild West, these early settlers will bear the greatest rewards simply by being there first.
Building a successful e-commerce site is a complex endeavor that requires a keen understanding of business, technology, and social issues, as well as a systematic approach. In many firms today, e-commerce is just too important to be left totally to technologists and programmers.
The two most important management challenges in building a successful e-commerce site are:
1) developing a clear understanding of your business objectives;
2) knowing how to choose the right technology to achieve those objectives.
The first challenge requires you to build a plan for developing your firm’s site. The second challenge requires you to understand some of the basic elements of e-commerce infrastructure.
Even if you decide to outsource the entire e-commerce site development and operation to a service provider, you will still need to have a site development plan and some understanding of the basic e-commerce infrastructure issues such as cost, capability, and constraints. Without a plan and knowledge base, you will not be able to make sound management decisions about e-commerce within your firm.
1.1. Main Characteristics of Successful Business Web Site by Ellsworths
According to the “The New Internet Business Book” by Jill H. and Matthew V. Ellsworth successful business Web sites have in common the following characteristics:
- There are no Invisible Webs.
It is difficult sometimes to find Web pages in the Haystack of the Internet. To keep the site from being invisible, register it with all of the online search engines and with the catalog listings. In addition, the registrations are kept up to date with new categories and new sites.
- There are no Dead Webs.
Some Web pages have a “ghost town” feel about them because it seems as if no one has been tending them in a while. On good sites, the content is always fresh – new pages are added and old pages are updated and given face-lifts.
…
Report is divided into three sections. In first part is reviewed theory of internet marketing, e.g. two approaches of successful business web site. In the second part of the report there is analyzed company established in Latvia called “Latvian Mobile Telephone” according to the two approaches described in the first part. In the third part the author gives her recommendations to the LMT how to develop its internet marketing in order to attract new customers through the web site and make its web site better.
