Stylistic Devices in Proverbs

1.A friend in need, is a friend indeed. Anaphora: Words “a friend” has been repeated at the beginning of both clauses. The use of anaphora is to make some rhyming in the proverb.
2.A picture is worth a thousand words. Hyperbole: “Thousand” is used to emphesize the difference between a spoken word and a picture.
3.All for one and one for all. Ring repetition: “All” has been repeated at the end and at the beginning of the same sentence. However, whole phrase “all for one” has been repeated, but at the end of the sentence it is in reverse i.e. “one for all.”
4.All is fair in love and war. Hyperbole: “All” has been used hyperbolic. It is used to exaggerate the methods to win a war or to love the person you like.
5.All is well that ends well. Epiphora: Repetition of the word “well” makes this proverb contain epiphora. The proverb says that everything is good what has good ending.…
