4. The 3rd part of the novel. What the people of the flying island Laputa look like, how they are dressed, their hobbies. Academy of logado. Describe some 3 useless experiments.
Gulliver travels to Laputa. When he visits the island of Glubdugdribb, he gets the power to call up the dead and discovers the deceptions of history. he is set adrift by pirates and ends up on Laputa. people in Laputa are over-thinkers and are outrageous in many ways. They all have one eye pointing inward and the other upward, and they are so lost in thought that they must be reminded to pay attention to the world around them. they are greatly concerned with mathematics and music, they have no practical applications for their learning. Gulliver’s host explains that the inhabitants follow the prescriptions of a learned academy in the city, where the scientists undertake such wholly impractical projects as extracting sunbeams from cucumbers. Laputa is about 7km in diameter, with an adamantine base, which it’s inhabitants can maneuver in any direction using magnetic levitation.
