Conclusion.
The need for Internet access at the workplace is here to stay. And as long as employers wish to be successful, they will use whatever means possible to stay ahead of the highly competitive markets. The battle over the need for Internet use and employee privacy is likely to rage on for some time. From this essay, you have seen how muddled the laws are regarding electronic privacy at the workplace and the effects it is having on the employers, as well as the employees. Personally, I tend to agree with Mr. Frayer. A fair and balanced law needs to be enacted which will give compromise to both sides of this issue. The employers must be able to protect the business, and the employees should be able to enjoy some level of privacy. NEMA seems to come pretty close to reaching that objective. As long as the current laws remain however, companies will be permitted to act mostly as they see fit to preserve profit. Employees should get used to the fact that companies are in business to make money. If company policy makers feel some privacy infringement will help that cause, then the worker should be ready to deal with that if they wish to keep their job.
