Personal responsibility is one of the foundations of a stable and independent life because almost every important part of adulthood eventually requires a person to make decisions and accept that those decisions have consequences. Responsibility is visible in very ordinary situations: arriving when we promised, completing work by a deadline, returning something we borrowed, managing money carefully, admitting that we made a mistake, communicating when plans change, keeping private information confidential, taking care of our health, and considering how our behaviour affects other people.
