Thomas Alva Edison better known as Thomas Edison, was born in Milan, Ohio on February 11, 1847. He lived in a family were father was a jack-of-all-trades, and mother a former teacher. Edison got his education mostly at home, because after going to school only 3 months his mother taught him everything. At the age of 12 he sold fruit, candy, and papers on the Grand Trunk Railroad.
In 1862, he became a telegraph operator working in Western Union in Pot Huron. He spend much of his shift conducting electrical and chemical experiments. These habits cost him his second telegrapher job as a night transmitter in Ontario. Edison first invention was called Morse repeater in Indianapolis, in 1864.
Edison had clever personality. He contributed during the world war one by submitting more than forty plans and inventions to the navy for their consideration during the war. Many of his suggestions were very useful, but navy couldn’t let him know that. But one of his major contributions were simply suggesting that submarine sinkings be plotted on a map in order to discover where high – risk areas lay. …
