The Latvian court system isn’t as complex as in Great Britain or in the USA. The system is based on the Constitution (which is written and is called Satversme) and the Law on Judicial Power. This Law made changes in the judicial system according to the international standards. This reform established a three level court system with an inferior court, an appellate court and the Supreme Court.
An inferior court is the court of the first instance, there the litigation begins, and it is called a district/ city court.
An appellate court is a regional court. It has the power of a higher court to hear appeals from the inferior court.…
